19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This represents his maiden title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
